Map and globe interpretations, compilation, and presentation; introduction to contemporary tools in geography such as GIS (geographic information system), remote sensing, and GPS (global positioning system) will be introduced.
Cultural geography examines the interaction of man and his environment. Important cultural features in human geography such as language, religion and ethnicity, and their distribution and patterns will be considered.
The most important economic sectors such as natural resources, agriculture, manufacturing, services, urban patterns and cities, and their spatial distribution will be examined.
Interrelationships between the humans, political boundaries and systems; the organization of nation states; international organizations will be examined.
Physical geography examines the interrelationships between human activities and physical landscape, and their affect on climate, pollution, and environment.
Natural and cultural landscapes, including people and places in the United States will be examined.
Globalization, international organizations; trade negotiations, agreements and patterns will be examined.
Where people are distributed spatially and why? Patterns of migration, immigration policies and cultural problems will be examined.
Human-Environment interaction that alters our surroundings and brings new environmental challenges will be examined. Topics include climate, population, ecosystems, water treatment and everyday tips.
Students will gain a better self-understanding as they develop their interpersonal knowledge and skills in cross-cultural communication and explore the extent to which thoughts and perceptions are shaped by cultural experiences.
